Matt Moore
Matt is the Owner & Lead Instructor of Moore Tactical llc. Matt is a Christian, husband to a loving wife of 12 years, and father of 2 daughters and 1 son. He is also a member of Central Baptist Church in Rockville Maryland
Matt is a Construction Superintendent and has been in the industry for over 20 years. He started Moore Tactical llc because he loves to shoot and teach. He wanted take the hobby that he loves and use his experience to provide premier firearms training courses that go the extra mile for the students.
With 30 years of experience in shooting sports Matt has participated in multiple levels of competition over several disciplines. He is a NRA Certified Pistol Instructor, MSP Qualified Handgun Instructor, NRA Range Safety Officer, Member of Maryland Shall Issue, Member of the Glock Shooting Sports Foundation.
Matt is a steadfast supporter of the Second Amendment. He has a strong desire to train students in a way that helps them become comfortable with their firearms. His goal is to have them leave the course with the skills and knowledge needed to become a responsible armed citizen.

Matthew Arney
The most important thing to Matthew is his personal relationship to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. As the Senior Pastor of Central Baptist Church in Rockville, Matthew has a passion to introduce individuals to the love of Christ. As a husband and father, he takes his responsibilities to maintain a Christ centered home and to love and protect his loving wife and two sons. This has caused him to have a strong desire to help individuals understand the techniques and responsibilities of self-defense.
The name Shepherd Defense comes from Jeremiah 3:15 “And I will give you pastors (shepherds) according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.” His desire is to provide instruction in firearms and self-defense combined with an understanding of the reasons why protecting life is important.
Matthew is an NRA Certified Basic Pistol Instructor, MSP Qualified Handgun Instructor, IDPA member, Maryland Shall Issue Executive member, and holds multiple other certifications and memberships in firearms and self-defense.
John Havranek
John has been involved in shooting sports since 2006. During his 17 years of experience he has taken numerous trainings in pistol, rifle, and shotgun.
After attending a course taught by Matt Moore John decided he wanted to become an instructor. He and Matt worked together and John became an NRA Pistol Instructor in 2023. Shortly after getting his instructor certification he joined the Instructor Cadre at Moore Tactical.
In his spare time John enjoys working out, hanging out with his dog and competition shooting. He is currently training to compete in the Tactical Games.

James Tango
James is the newest addition to the Moore Tactical Instructor Cadre. He will be teaching not only firearms related classes but will be developing and teaching our new Combatives program.
James has over 15 years of experience in the military. He has served in the Infantry, Reconnaissance, Intelligence and the Special Operations Communities. During his military career and subsequent work as a private contractor he has had extensive training in Team and One Man CQB, Defensive/Offensive Driving, Vehicle Dynamics, Contact Driving, Emergency Medical, and Combatives.
He has spent his entire adult life pursuing his love of martial arts. He is highly trained in multiple disciplines including Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai.
FYI his last name isn't really "Tango" due to the nature of his work we cannot post all of his personal information. So come out to a class and meet him! Below are some of his many qualifications.
